Well known actor and marijuana advocate Woody Harrelson has sent in his application to open a marijuana dispensary, along with 60 other applicants in Honolulu County. His company name? Simple Organic Living mentioned in a statement by the state Department of Health.
If his application is approved, the established film star would be able to open two dispensaries as well as two production facilities. Reported by the Associated Press. The state will be reviewing the applications for permits and will approve 8 applicants by April. Dispensaries are expected to open in July.
NBCNews.com noted that if selected, dispensary applicants must have $1 million cash before applying for a licenses, plus $100,000 for each dispensary location. All applicants must have been Hawaii residents for more than five years. Because the law allows each of the approved 8 medical marijuana dispensaries to operate two production facilities and two retail shops, equalling a total of 16 dispensaries. Six are allowed on Oahu, four on Hawaii Island, four on Maui and two on Kauai.
Harrelson follows fellow Top CelebStoner B-Real from Cypress HIll, who last year won a license in Santa Ana, California to open a dispensary. Other celebs getting into the cannabis industry include Snoop Dogg, Tommy Chong, the Marley Family, Willie Nelson, Wiz Khalifa, Melissa Etheridge and Ghostface Killah.
