The Interro Bang confirms that Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson told High Times magazine that he can’t work without marijuana.
Davidson, during an interview with High Times reporter Danny Danko earlier this week spoke about his marijuana consumption on the evening of SNL’s 42nd season premiere. The 22 year old actor/comedian says that he was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at around 17 years old, an inflammatory bowel condition that causes severe pain and loss of appetite. It’s a well known to be a difficult illness to treat, with some sufferers having to get major surgery in order to alleviate the painful symptoms. Although Pete Davidson has been living with Crohn’s and it can be terribly debilitating, he says that smoking marijuana helps him avoid the worst of the symptoms.
“I got Crohn’s disease when I was like 17 or 18. I found that the medicines that the doctors were prescribing didn’t work and I was seeing all these doctors and trying new things, but weed would be the only thing that would help me eat,” says the comedian. “My stomach would be in pain all day and I wouldn’t be able to eat, and then I’d smoke and I’d be able to eat and do my shows. I wouldn’t be able to do SNL if I didn’t smoke weed, I wouldn’t be able to do anything, really.”
In fact, the condition is so debilitating for Davidson, that he can’t hit the SNL stage unless he’s smoked prior to performing.
“Me performing not high has gone awful. It’s awful for me, because I don’t feel well,” admits Pete Davidson. “I could perform not high, but it wouldn’t be that much fun for me. I’ll be in a lot of pain before shows, but I’ll smoke a joint and then immediately I can do it.”
While Pete Davidson is extremely grateful to have the ability to use marijuana on a medicinal level, he believes that weed should be available to anyone who wants it.
The “tell it like it is” interview with High Times is just another example of a celebrity showing their support for the cannabis industry.
