The country’s largest mall owner is about to dive into the cannabis pool and by opening over 100 shops selling CBD infused products. Simon Property Group on formally announced on Monday about the partnership with Ohio-based marijuana company Green Growth Brands. According to CNBC, approximately 108 locations selling CBD infused products will launch this year at Simon’s malls across the U.S., including Roosevelt Field Mall in New York and The Galleria in Houston.
In a press release president of Simon Malls, John Rulli disclosed, “We are constantly on the lookout for cutting-edge new concepts,” “We are committed to adding new and dynamic retailers and uses to our shopping destinations, and the GGB shopping experience is exactly the type of innovation our customers want and expect from us.”
Both Green Growth Brands and Simon Malls revealed that the first location will open in March at Castleton Square Mall in Indianapolis. The rest of the shops are projected to open later in the year. With this newly established partnership, GGB said it looks forward to being able to open more storefronts for its Seventh Sense Botanical Therapy (“Seventh Sense”) brand for CBD infused body care.
Most CBD was legalized in December when President Donald Trump signed the farm bill. Although, there are still some restrictions and regulations enforced by the Food and Drug Administration that disallow foods and drinks to contain added CBD, which could potentially produce some challenges for restaurant owners already selling CBD infused food and drink.
Also on this week, department store royalty Barney’s said next mont it plans to open a “cannabis lifestyle shop” in its Beverly Hills location, affirming that more locations will open soon. The tycoon said the space, called “The High End,” will sell an exclusive vaporizer pen, pastilles and other CBD-related items. “This is not a pop-up, it’s not a temporary space,” Barney’s creative director, Matthew Mazzucca, said. “It’s a category that we are embracing and getting behind.”
