Green Hop Presents Reclaiming Cannabis at City Hall
August 27 @ 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM PDT
The purpose and mission of Reclaiming Cannabis at City Hall is to reveal cannabis related resources to help close the wealth gap and to empower black and brown communities.
Although the spectrum of people who use cannabis crosses race, age and economics, many in communities of color find it hard to shake off the negative stigma around cannabis, or have been negatively impacted by marijuana prohibition. Green Hop’s culturally centered training and apprenticeship incubator is desperately needed, as it is well-documented that blacks have been disproportionately arrested and incarcerated during the war on marijuana. Nationally, this targeted piece of the larger war on drugs has ensnared hundreds of thousands of people in the criminal justice systems and has negatively affected their ability to get access to housing, employment and financial aid. As the cannabis industry is slated to grow from over $7 billion in 2015 to nearly $21 billion by 2020, Green Hop’s Cannabis Workforce Incubator and other programming would lay the groundwork for an economic shift of low-income families of color.
Part of Green Hop’s mission is to help repair the harm caused by the disproportionate criminalization of cannabis before it became legal in Oregon.
Green Hop’s programming honors the histories of communities of color while cultivating a pipeline that provides people of color a stake in the multibillion cannabis industry as entrepreneurs, investors, consumers, advocates and/or employees
